DOES MUSCLE RELEASE THERAPY (MRT) USE THE LARGE EXERCISE BALLS?
No, Muscle Release Therapy is not an exercise class – it is a type of therapy for
your body. In fact, it is the opposite of an exercise class. You will learn to release
and lengthen your muscles rather than engage and shorten your muscles. MRT uses small
balls (4-6” in diameter). The balls are soft, air-filled and designed to hold the
weight of your body.
IS MUSCLE RELEASE THERAPY EXPENSIVE?
No, the equipment is inexpensive and simple to use. The minimum that you require is two
balls ($10-$12) but many people prefer to buy a Basic Kit for $26 or a Deluxe Kit for
$58. I offer Beginners Classes for $40 (45 minutes per week for 4 weeks) and
Advanced Classes for $50 (one hour per week for 4 weeks). Classes are held at various
times on various days from September to November and January to April.
HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE?
A Muscle Release Therapy session can take as little as 5 minutes or as long as 2 hours or
more. Beginners Classes are 45 minutes and Advanced Classes are one hour.
I always encourage the participants in my Beginner classes to spend at least 15 minutes
a day practicing the techniques that they learn in class so that they can become comfortable
with the method and can fully enjoy the benefits.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DO MUSCLE RELEASE THERAPY?
Muscle Release Therapy can safely be done as frequently as you want, although most people
fit one session per day into their busy lifestyles. I often ask people “How good do
you want to feel?” For example, if you are a person who has constant pain or a high
level of pain, a daily MRT session is recommended. If your goal is to increase overall range
of motion or overall fitness, you will reach your goal quicker with daily sessions. Others
use MRT to relieve specific issues as needed (headaches, difficulty sleeping, neck tension)
and some enjoy attending a weekly class as part of their stress reduction plan.
HOW SOON WILL I NOTICE IMPROVEMENT?
Although each person is unique, most people experience changes after their first session
of Muscle Release Therapy. The changes you experience will become deeper, more profound
and longer lasting as you practice MRT over time.
WHY SHOULD I ATTEND A CLASS?
During classes you will learn the principles of Muscle Release Therapy, the correct
placement of the balls, various ball placements, Whole Body Moves and guidance in the breathing
exercises. MRT is designed as a wellness strategy that you can do at home, at your own convenience.
Although some individuals feel comfortable continuing on their own after a 4-week Beginner class,
others prefer to attend a regular class for interest and motivational reasons. Others continue classes
to learn additional placements and improve technique. Some individuals use classes as their
“self-care time”.
